The residence at 523 North Pine Street was built by the Berryhill family for its intended purpose — a mother-in-law house. Per Friends of Fourth Ward, it is one of Charlotte's first Craftsman bungalows.
The Berryhill name also appears at stop 10 (the Crowell-Berryhill Store / Alexander Michael's) and stop 15 (the Berryhill House — the Junior League's 1970s flagship restoration). The family threaded through Fourth Ward across multiple generations of residential and commercial construction.
